Nigeria's Atiku Abubakar vows to revamp agriculture

Nigerian presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar promised to revamp agriculture and commerce in Kano, if elected as president. Kano is Nigeria's second-largest city and might have an impact on who wins the presidential election. 

Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, who lost to Muhammadu Buhari in 2019, is one of the top candidates, along with Bola Tinubu of the ruling All Progressives Congress and Peter Obi of the Labour Party.

Nigeria's economy, which has struggled for years with weak development, high unemployment, reliance on oil, and now growing debt levels and inflation, has emerged as a prominent campaign topic.

Addressing rally goers at the Sani Abacha stadium, Atiku pledged to unlock Nigeria's borders. He is certain that the measure would increase commerce.

Buhari ordered the closure of the borders in order to reduce smuggling.
